Vitamin Alphabet Song
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!
We get them from the foods we eat,
in apples, beans and corn so sweet!
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!
A’s for healthy bones and skin
to keep me in the shape I’m in!
B will help my body grow
and help me to be in the know!
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!
C connects me through and through,
helps prevent diseases, too!
D will help my bones grown strong
so I can use them all life long!
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!
E is found in leafy greens
and makes me one first-class machine!
K will work if I get cut,
and help to make the bleeding stop.
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!
We get them from the foods we eat,
in apples, beans and corn so sweet!
A, B, C, D, E and K!
Vitamins will make my day!

V-A-R-I-E-T-Y
Did you ever wonder why
snowflakes falling from the sky
are all different as they float by?
It’s all about variety!
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
Do you know the reason why
there are lots of books in the library,
some for you and some for me?
It’s all about variety!
L-I-B-R-A-R-Y, life’s about variety.
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
Did you ever wonder why
some folks sing low and some sing high
as they raise their voices to the sky?
Well, life’s about variety!
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
All these notes are not the same,
with different tones and different names.
So many songs these notes contain
’cause life’s about variety.
Do-Mi-So-Do-La-Fa-So, life’s about variety.
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
Fruits and vegetables are like that, too
—so many kinds, not just a few!
Have “5-A-Day,” not one or two
’cause health’s about variety.
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.
V-A-R-I-E-T-Y, life’s about variety.

Fruit & Veggie Song

The Fruit & Veggie Song
I’m a carrot, I’m one crispy vegetable,
for salads or eating on the run!
Shred me or dice me, or make me julienne!
Steam me, sauté me — just let the fun begin!
Cause I’m a carrot, a crispy carrot!
I’m a potato, that’s po-TAY-to, OR po-tawh-to,
and we all grow right underneath the soil.
I love it when you bake me, you can roast me, too!
Guess what? We come in colors: brown, red and blue!
Yes, I’m a potato, the all-purpose perfect potato!
I’m a pepper, I come in many colors
And I spice up ... a salad or a stew.
Some say that I’m picanté and make a salsa hot,
Some tell me that I’m mild and sweet and flavor up a sauce!
Cause I’m a pepper, one perky pepper!
I’m a banana, I come ready-to-eat.
And you can bring me ... to school or to the beach.
No need for preparation, just take me as I am!
And I can be so sweet, more than any other can!
Cause I’m a banana, a beautiful banana!
I’m an apple — I’m not a pomme de terre,
a juicy apple, a fruit beyond compare!
I’m known as “Mac” or “Granny Smith,” “Washington State,” too.
You’ll find me tangy, sour, sweet — just try me when I’m new!
Yes, I’m an apple, an adorable apple!
We’re fruits and veggies, and what a job we’ve got
just as we are ... or you can throw us in a pot!
We’ll do our best to help you grow strong and healthy, too!
All you have to do is choose us — and that’s up to you!
We’re fruits and veggies — “5-A-Day” fruits and veggies!

MORE or Less of Me

MORE or Less of Me
Thirty-five hundred calories
are in one pound of fat.
It’s not some made-up number,
it’s a scientific fact.
If I can balance what I eat
with my activity, then
over time, I’ll find there’ll be
no more or less of me!

Colonel Kernel
I said, “Tell me, Colonel Kernel,
why whole grains are the best.”
“They’re a gift from Mother Nature
for you and all the rest
with all the nutrients you need
to fuel your body.
Pass the cornbread, please.”
I said, “Tell me, Colonel Kernel,
why whole grains are the best.”
“They’re a gift from Mother Nature —
don’t put her to the test!
White bread, rice and pasta and rolls —
have less of these.
Try them made with whole grains.
Pass the tabbouleh, please!”
I said, “Tell me, Colonel Kernel,
why whole grains are the best.”
“They’re a gift from Mother Nature —
the natural scientist:
When you mix grains with
nuts and seeds and beans,
they form a protein.
Pass the hummus, please!”
I said, “Thank you, Colonel Kernel,
to you I must confess:
I didn’t think I’d like them,
but now they’re just the best.
I like peanut butter, whole wheat bread
and raisins, if you please!
Thank you, Mother Nature,
for making all of these!”
I said, “Thank you, Colonel Kernel,
to you I must confess:
I didn’t think I’d like them,
but now they’re just the best.
I even tried polenta with
tomato sauce and cheese!
Thank you, Mother Nature,
for making all of these!

Lipid Blues

Lipid Blues
Refrain
Cholesterol’s been cloggin’ up my arteries
and that’s not all, fat’s been hangin’ ‘round, too.
I’ll fool them all with whole grains and veggies
and exercise my whole life through.
Cholesterol’s been cloggin’ up my arteries
and that’s not all, fat’s been hangin’ ‘round, too.
I’ll fool them all, take charge of my body,
so I won’t sing those lipid blues!
Verse 1
Cholesterol is one essential nutrient,
it helps my body do the things it needs to do.
But, if there’s too much in my body
in my arteries it sticks like glue!
Refrain.
Verse 2
Now fat supplies concentrated calories
and, it’s true, we need fat, too.
But, keep in mind the rule is moderation –
with nine calories a gram, just a little will do!
Refrain.
After last refrain:
French fries? Super-size? Is that wise?

One Great Big World Community
Let’s make up some rules so we can
all live together, all live together, all live together.
Let’s make up some rules so we can
all live together in this great big world community!
How ‘bout when you are speaking
well, then, I will be listening,
I will be listening, I will be listening.
Then when I am speaking, it is your turn to listen
in this great big world community!
If I don’t understand you, then
I’ll ask you a question,
I’ll ask you a question, I’ll ask you a question.
If I don’t understand you,
then I’ll ask you a question
in this great big world community.
Sometimes I won’t agree, but I’ll
respect your opinion,
respect your opinion, respect your opinion.
Sometimes I won’t agree,
but I’ll respect your opinion,
in this great big world community.
I won’t assume you know my thoughts,
so I’ll say my feelings,
I’ll say my feelings, I’ll say my feelings.
And don’t assume I know yours too,
so tell me your feelings
in this great big world community.
I’ll be thoughtful with the words I choose
to say what I’m feeling,
to say what I’m feeling, to say what I’m feeling.
I won’t use words to hurt you
when I say what I’m feeling
in this great big world community.
Like, I’ll call you by your name
and I will not be a bully,
I’ll not be a bully, I’ll not be a bully.
“Sticks and stones can break my bones,
and names CAN hurt me”
in this great big world community.
We all have a special gift each one like no other,
each one like no other, each one like no other.
I will use my special gift that’s like no other
to build one great big world community!

Wash My Hands

Wash My Hands!
If I wash my hands for just 20 seconds,
using soap and water, rubbing thoroughly
(especially when I blow my nose,
or cough or when I’m sneezing),
then I’ll do my best to live more healthfully,
not just for myself but for my
friends and family;
not just for myself, but for my
friends and family!

Save the Day!
01:25
|

Save the Day!
Can you tell if someone’s choking
when their airway isn’t clear?
Their eyes as big as dinner plates,
they clutch their throat in fear!
Sometimes they’ll leave the table
so that you won’t see
‘cause they become embarrassed:
“This can’t be happening to me!”
But here’s a little method
to help to save the day,
made up by Doctor Heimlich
(he told us what to say):
Ask if they can speak, and
if they shake their head, say,
“I know how to help you,”
and take control instead!
Come around behind them,
with your left hand, make a fist.
Put it on their tummy just below their waist.
Bring your right hand ‘round them
and clutch it to your left.
Pull your fist in and upward
several times to do the trick!
But if your friend is coughing
then you don’t have to act.
Just remember not to
slap her on the back.
‘Cause, if she can cough,
she can do the job alone,
but, you’ll be there to help.
If you need to use the phone,
just in case of a problem, then, call 9-1-1.
Better safe than sorry!
Call them up, they’d rather come
to make sure the person’s healthy
and then be on their way.
They’ll be happy that you used your head
to help to save the day!

Lemonade Rap
When the milk turns sour
you can make a chocolate cake.
But don’t eat it all – you’ll get a belly ache.
Life has opportunities for me and you,
And good choices that we make
can help to see us through!
“When life sends you lemons,
make some lemonade!”
It’s no fun to be a victim –
don’t choose that masquerade!
Check out all your options,
face up to your fear,
Use your inner power
and your answer will appear!
If the road splits before you
and your way becomes unclear,
If the sun is going down
and the road signs disappear,
Trust that voice inside you –
you’ll know by how you feel.
You’ll make the right decision!
It’s the truth and it’s real!
