A Special Kind of Love

I wrote this song in May of 2004 for a number of friends and family members who were getting married that year. I had sung Noel Paul Stookey’s “The Wedding Song” for weddings before, but I thought it was time to write my own. Inspired by the notion of “rising together in love” instead of “falling,” my song includes insights from some of my own lessons learned. Interestingly, in May 2004 Massachusetts legalized marriage between any couple, and I realized that this is a song that could be shared at any wedding. Around the same time, after submitting a song to Mary Travers (PP&M) for consideration, I received a letter from Noel Paul Stookey encouraging me (and the thousands of others who received his form letter) by saying, “Above all, don’t give up. Just because you got this crummy form letter don’t forget that each of us is really quite unique and even ‘reinventing the wheel’ can provide others with special insights.” So, this song is my “reinvention.”
