about

When I write a song, I try to put myself in the “shoes of the circumstance,” to try to see it from another’s perspective. Psalm 2007 is an expression of compassion – of “suffering with” – for someone I knew who was going through that “dark night of the soul” and couldn’t find the words to pray. And, while it is a lament about not being able to pray, the irony is that calling out to God for help is, in fact, prayer!

lyrics

Psalm 2007

Yesterdays in my life,
most were filled with love and gladness,
and my faith was as deep
as the waters of the sea.
Now, today, there is strife
and the world is lost in madness.
Through my eyes I just can’t see.

Oh, my Lord, hear me calling,
pick me up, I keep falling.
I can’t pray, lost the way.
Oh, my Lord, can you hear me?
Night and day, what to say;
all the words still elude me.
There’s no peace in my mind.
Precious Lord, can you hear me?

Once you said daily Bread
would be mine just for the asking,
and the secret of life is freely yours to give.
Well, I stand here and ask
that the Bread that feeds the Spirit
might be shared that we may live!

Oh, my Lord, hear me calling,
pick me up, I keep falling.
I can’t pray, lost the way.
Oh, my Lord, can you hear me?
Night and day, what to say;
all the words still elude me.
There’s no peace in my mind.
Precious Lord, can you hear me?
