My faith tradition encourages giving thanks in all situations – for all
the goodness life has to offer as well as for the more difficult and challenging times. “Thank You for the Blessings” was written as I worked through a particularly painful time in my life – a time of loss and regret for some choices I’d made. But, as often happens when working through those important and necessary stages of grieving, there is always a lesson that comes out of the process. For me it often takes an extraordinary amount of time and patience to discover the lesson, but it’s always worth it in the end.

Thank you for the blessings of this life,
for the beauty right before my eyes:
for the promise held within each seedling’s leaves
to the magic purple morning skies.
These alone are the gifts of your hand.
